Relationship between goal orientation and academic procrastination with academic burnout with emphasis on the mediating role of academic self-regulation in nursing students

Abstract:

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to the relationship between goal orientation and academic procrastination with academic burnout with emphasis on the mediating role of academic self-regulation in nursing students. Methods: The research method is correlation using structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the study consisted of all nursing students of Bojnourd University of Medical Sciences in the academic year 98-99, out of which 303 students were selected by stage cluster sampling. Research instruments included: Maslash & Jackson (1981) Burnout Questionnaire, Solomon & Rathblom (1984) Academic Procrastination Scale, Pintrich & De Groot (MSLQ) Learning Inventory Questionnaire (1990) and Orientation Assessment Questionnaire Targets by Elliott and McGregor (2001), all of which had acceptable validity and reliability. In order to analyze the data from the software Amos-24 was used. Results: The results showed that all indicators of the research model are in the desired range. In general, fit indices are in acceptable ranges. Also, the relationship between goal orientation and academic procrastination with academic burnout is not significant, but there is a significant relationship between academic self-regulation and academic burnout. Academic self-regulation also mediates between goal orientation and academic burnout, but academic self-regulation does not mediate between academic procrastination and academic burnout.
